Hey CG fans! I just wanted to give a special shout-out to Melissa Poland-Knapik. Melissa posted a picture of her and her family wearing “Alzheimer’s Sucks” t-shirts that she ordered from our site. Melissa’s husband found the design in our gallery, and she loved them because of her involvement in raising Alzheimer’s awareness. Sadly, Melissa’s own mother suffered from this disease and passed away May 9th, 2009. Melissa also shared some interesting facts about the disease. Did you know:
- There is yet to be someone who survives a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.
- Every 71 seconds someone develops Alzheimer’s disease.
- Only half of those who develop it are properly diagnosed.
- It is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States.
Melissa and her family wore these shirts on Mother’s Day 2010 in her mother’s honor, and to raise awareness for this devastating disease. Melissa is active with the local Alzheimer’s chapter and co-chair the local Memory Walk with the help and support of her siblings. Thank you so much for sharing your photo with us Melissa, and best of luck to you as you strive to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.
