I'm Going Down Stairs

It's the classic comedy bit. You pretend like your are going down stairs while people on the other side of the table (or partition) stare on in amazement. That's what's happening in this old painting. If not, well then that's a pretty big indictment on this painter's ability to squeeze everyone into the frame in a creative and not-at-all bizarre way.
